BA 2022 – Basic Aerobiology Course Aerobiological observations: Molecular, immunological and cellular methods

October 2022 – Évora, Portugal

Training school on molecular methods for the detection of airborne allergens and pathogens:
The EAS Basic Aerobiology course series is aimed at understanding aerobiological processes and providing a solid background for the interpretation of aerobiological observations. The courses deal with fundamental or applied aerobiological topics.
This course is organised, in a hybrid format, by the University of Évora and the University of Málaga as part of the ADOPT COST Action (CA18226 – New approaches in detection of pathogens and aeroallergens) and under the aegis of the European Aerobiology Society (EAS).
Course themes:
Molecular, immunological and cellular methods are fundamental for the analysis of air quality and the human exposome. Using the real samples obtained from the different locations, small groups of participants will focus on extraction procedures, DNA or RNA analysis, allergen quantification and action at the cellular level and will present their work as part of an oral exam at the end of the course.
Travel: Évora is easily attainable by air, rail, and bus. The course is organized in a hybrid format; The Lab work starts on 10th October at 9:00h and will finish at 14:00 on October 14th; Online presentations will occur on October 3rd and 4th (mornings) and 20th and 21st October (mornings).
Organisers: Célia M. Antunes, Ana R. Costa, Helena Ribeiro, and Ibon Eguíluz Gracia.
Participation: Everyone can apply for participation. Preference will be given to members of the IAA and
affiliated societies, COST ADOPT participants.
Course fee and financial support: The COST Action ADOPT is financially supporting the course, reducing the course fee for all participants. COST ADOPT members can apply for additional financial support covering course fees, travel and accommodation. Some grants may be available from aerobiological societies for non-COST Action members.
Course fees: €450 (fee includes coffee breaks, lunches, and a Gala Dinner)
Accommodation: A block booking has been made at the Hotel Solar de Monfalim (Solar Monfalim – Solar de Monfalim Alojamento em Évora). Prices are €50/night for single rooms (only a few available) and €35/night for a twin (two single beds) or €26/pp for a twin+1 (three single beds). Please indicate upon registerng which type of room you would like to reserve and, if you already know, who you would like to share with.
